Global Mobility Call 2023

14/11/2023

A day of inspiration at Global Mobility Call 2023. On 25th October 2023, some members of the EVbee team headed to Madrid for the Global Mobility Call (GMC) 2023. This three-day event, held at the IFEMA centre, this year hosted over 120 conferences, 320 participating companies, and over 8 thousand attendees who all came together to showcase, discuss and learn about sustainable mobility. The goal of GMC is to bring together all actors involved in sustainable mobility. This involves two major elements: firstly, a world congress featuring industry leaders from across the globe coming together to debate and converse about the vastly expanding sustainable mobility movement. The second element is the exhibition, one of the largest showcases on sustainable mobility, which provides the perfect environment for networking amongst industry professionals and EV enthusiasts.

At EVbee, we are committed to staying ahead of the curve in the dynamic electric vehicle industry, which is why we always prioritise going to events such as GMC. Conferences like these are a great opportunity to be inspired, see the latest developments across the sustainable mobility industry, and meet like-minded businesses committed to providing a greener transportation future. Below, we have highlighted some interesting and inspiring exhibits we encountered while at GMC.

The Rise of Formula E

This year’s GMC was a great place for Formula 1 fans. We loved seeing the advancements that this sport has made in terms of sustainability. Numerous Formula E (the fully electric racing series) displays demonstrated how far boundaries have been pushed and advancements made in this industry. H24 Racing is pioneering an electric-hydrogen category of motorsport and showcased their vehicle, which is powered by hydrogen. Their impressive display at GMD meant we could get up close and personal with the model they brought, which looked like a normal Formula 1 car. EDP also provided a one-off opportunity to test drive their Formula E vehicle. We had a go trying this fully immersive experience. You sit in the Formula E car with surrounding screens that project a realistic display as if you are driving a lap at Silverstone, a very fun experience.

Sustainable Public Transport

In 2020, Madrid became the first city in the world to have a completely electric fleet of buses as part of their transport system. It is then no surprise that GMC is held in such a sustainable-forward city. We enjoyed the display from Iberdrola, the company behind Madrid’s electric bus infrastructure. It featured a mock-up of their bus stops, and it did really feel like we were waiting for a bus in the middle of the conference centre. We found the number of displays showing developments in sustainable public transport at GMC encouraging for the industry as a whole, especially the efforts made to combat the largest obstacles that stand in the way of the transition to e-mobility, such as the provision of high-output charging.

New EV Business models

There were lots of new and creative business models that have emerged out of the growth of the e-mobility industry. Formed in response to so-called ‘range anxiety’ (the fear of your electric vehicle running out of charge), the company Egap has created a mobile charging service. This concept involves a charging station stored within a vehicle that is able to drive out to you in case you run out of charge unexpectedly. Another display we saw was from Wild Imagination, which provides a service to deliver and fetch items via a robot. The unique element of this electric-powered robot is that it can be programmed to act in a routine as well as to dodge barriers and obstacles such as road crossings. The world of sustainable e-mobility is growing broader in range and scope, which is great to see!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Global Mobility Call 2023. It was an inspiring event, and we learned a lot about the future of sustainable transport! The next show we will be attending will be the London EV Show, a very exciting venture as we will be displaying our own products. Our attendance at the London EV Show is especially important this year as it will also represent our official launch in the UK, and we have a very special announcement in relation to this that we can’t wait to share with you all! To follow along in our build-up to the London EV Show and the products we will have on display there, follow our social media. We hope to see lots of you at the event on 28-30th November.
